Another Round Of Strong Storms Forecast For MD: See Timing, Impacts

The threat of storms looms over the Baltimore region yet again on Wednesday and could bring torrential rain that triggers flash floods, the National Weather Service said.

A flood watch was issued shortly after noon Thursday and remains in effect until midnight for the following counties: Anne Arundel, Carroll, Cecil, Howard, Montgomery, Frederick, Baltimore, Prince George's and Harford.

According to NWS forecasters, showers and thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and torrential downpours are expected across much of the area Wednesday into the evening hours. Storms are most likely after 5 p.m.

The storms will be capable of producing 1 to 3 inches of rain per hour, forecasters said. Widespread rainfall totals near an inch are expected, though some areas could see 2-4 inches.

Isolated instances of flash flooding will be possible as storms move through the state, forecasters said.

Outside of the storms, Wednesday will be another hot and humid day, with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s, and high humidity as the dew point holds in the 70s. Storms should gradually wind down through the evening hours, NWS forecasters said, giving way to dry conditions during the second half of the night.

Looking ahead, a few fast-moving storms are possible on Thursday, with strong winds and heavy rain likely late in the afternoon into the evening, according to the Capital Weather Gang. A chance for an early-morning shower or thunderstorm will send temperatures soaring to highs in the low to mid-90s.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 77. Southwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then a slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: A chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
