BALTIMORE, MD — The funeral service for three Baltimore City firefighters who died in the line of duty drew thousands Wednesday morning.

Lt. Paul Butrim, Lt. Kelsey Sadler, and Firefighter/Paramedic Kenneth Lacayo were remembered as heroes at the joint ceremony at the Baltimore Convention Center.

The three first responders died battling a two-alarm blaze at a row house Jan. 24 in southwest Baltimore.

When crews arrived before dawn, fire was visible from the second and third floors of the property in the 200 block of South Stricker Street, according to Former Baltimore City Fire Commissioner Stuart Nathan, who said there was a report of people trapped in the burning structure.

"Less than five minutes after arriving on the scene — without warning — a collapse occurred, trapping the crews operating inside," Nathan said. "These heroes gave their lives in service to the citizens of the city of Baltimore and will never be forgotten."
