Baltimore Mourns Loss Of Officer Keona Holley At Funeral

The governor, mayor and hundreds of police were reportedly among those who attended the funeral of Officer Keona Holley.

BALTIMORE, MD —A Baltimore police officer was memorialized Tuesday with a funeral service at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Officer Keona Holley, 39, was shot in an ambush while working the midnight shift in Curtis Bay on Dec. 16. She died a week later after being taken off life support at the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

Thousands attended the funeral service for the fallen officer downtown. Among them were police from around the country, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan.

“Officer Keona Holley was a devoted public servant who committed her life to making Baltimore a better place,” Scott said in a statement. “As we lay her to rest today, I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that her legacy lives on.”

The mayor, governor, police commissioner and a shift supervisor for Holley spoke at the funeral service at the convention center, according to the Baltimore Sun, which reported she will be the first to be buried in an area designated for first responders at King Memorial Park, a cemetery for ethnic families founded in the 1970s.

A flag was raised between Baltimore Fire Department vehicles on Conway at Sharp streets, which vehicles reportedly passed under as part of the funeral procession.

Holley is reportedly survived by four children.

More than $110,000 has been raised for her family, according to the Signal 13 Foundation. Holley's family issued a statement Tuesday thanking the public for their prayers and support.

“Today, we lay to rest our beloved wife, sister, mother, daughter, friend and neighbor, Officer Keona (Kee Kee) Holley,” the family said in a statement shared by the Baltimore Police Department. "While her fellow officers are hurting, they never left our side since the incident on December 16, 2021, and they are still with us today. Our family is a family of faith and through our tears, faith have sustained us. God has called his angel Kee Kee home, but we stand committed to Kee Kee's dream of building a safer and stronger community for all the residents, children, and mothers of Baltimore.”
