BALTIMORE, MD — Despite facing criminal charges and a trial in September, Baltimore's top prosecutor officially launched her re-election campaign Tuesday.

After vanishing from social media for several months, Marilyn Mosby returned to announce plans to seek a third term as Baltimore city state's attorney.

"Over the past few years, we have seen both good and bad days, but the one constant is the unwavering resilience and the fight of the great people who call Baltimore home," Mosby said in a video posted to YouTube.

"I am proud of the work we are doing, getting violent repeat offenders off our streets with a 90 percent conviction rate, working to end the war on drugs, dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline by providing more opportunities for our young people," she continued.

In the video, Mosby makes no mention of the legal trouble she faces and the potential federal prison time that could come with a conviction. However, an optimistic Mosby reassures Baltimore residents that good things are on the horizon.

"Baltimore, we've come a long way together, and the best is yet to come. Why? Because we're built for this," she says at the end of the video.

The 42-year-old is facing federal charges of perjury and making false mortgage applications, relating to the purchases of two vacation homes in Florida, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Mosby was scheduled to go to trial May 2; however, a federal judge postponed it after Mosby walked back her demands to be tried within 70 days so as not to interfere with her bid for re-election. She’s now slated to stand trial Sept. 19.

Mosby will face fellow Democratic candidates Ivan Bates and Thiru Vignarajah in the primary, according to the Maryland Board of Elections. Roya Hanna announced last month she will run as an Independent in the general election.

Meanwhile, Mosby maintains she is innocent of the charges, calling them political and racially motivated.

"I have done nothing wrong," Mosby has previously said. "I did not defraud anyone to take my money from my retirement savings, and I did not lie on any mortgage application."

On Thursday, a federal judge denied all three motions from her defense attorney to dismiss the charges against her, WBAL-TV reported.

"I'm going to fight and I'm going to prevail like I always do," Mosby told reporters after leaving court.

If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison for each of two counts of perjury and a maximum of 30 years in federal prison for each of two counts of making false mortgage applications, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
