57th Anniv. of the 1968 NFL Championship Game Colts Beat Browns 34-0, says "Charm'tastic Mile"
December 29, 2025 - The "Charm'tastic Mile" of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3) www.thecharmtasticmile.com. The chic & famed 1.3 mile corridor located in the heart of Charm City (Est.1975) that connects Dwtn-West, the Inner Harbor & Harbor East (S. Greene & W. Pratt Street to S. President & Fleet Street) that is now listed on Google search as one of he Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America is reporting today is the 57th Anniversary of the 1968 NFL Championship between the Baltimore Colts vs Cleveland Browns.
Yesterday the Browns defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 13-6 at home to give the Baltimore Ravens one more chance to make the playoffs. The old Browns, being the Ravens who moved from Cleveland in 1996 and became the Purple-n-Black in Charm City.
Earl Morrall & Company steam-rolled the Browns (10-4) 34-0 to win the '68 NFL Championship in front of 78,000 fans. The Colts had a 13-1 record, they won the Coastal Division and defeated the Minnesota Vikings 24-14 to win the Western Conference Championship. The Colts were led by Head-Coach Don Shula. Morrall was the back-up QB to Icon Johnny Unitas. Earl would be named the '68 NFL MVP.
Unitas was a 3-time winner of the NFL MVP (1959, 64, 67). The Colts dominating victory made them a 16-17 point favorite to win Super Bowl III vs the NY Jets. Jets brash and confident QB Joe Namath made a "Guarantee" that the AFL Jets would beat the big & bad Colts.
The Jets would defeat the Colts 16-7 to win SB3. The AFL beat the mighty NFL and the AFL/NFL Merger would be complete. The 10 AFL and 16 NFL teams would merge and the 1970 season would be its 1st of AFC & NFC Conferences.
The first-ever AFC Championship Game was played in Baltimore on January 3, 1971 at Memorial Stadium when the Colts defeated the Oakland Raiders 27-17. The Colts moved-on to face the Dallas Cowboys in Super V. Baltimore beat Dallas 16-13 to win SB5.
