57th Anniversary of  NY Jets Win (16-7) vs Baltimore Colts Super Bowl III, says "Charm'tastic Mile"

January 12, 2026 - The "Charm'tastic Mile" of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3) www.thecharmtasticmile.com. The chic & famed 1.3 mile corridor located in the heart of Charm City (Est.1975) that connects Dwtn-West, the Inner Harbor & Harbor East (S. Greene & W. Pratt Street to S. President & Fleet Street) that is now listed on Google search as one of the Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America is reporting today is the 57th Anniversary of the NY Jets vs Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III

On January 12, 1969, the AFL NY Jets faced the Mighty Baltimore Colts of the NFL in Super Bowl III (3:05 PM start) played at the Orange Bowl in Miami, FL in front of a crowd of more than 75,000 fans. The Colts defeated the Cleveland Browns 34-0 on December 29th to win the 1968 NFL Championship. Baltimore went on the road and shutout the Browns.

The Jets beat the Oakland Raiders 27-23 to win the 1968 AFL Championship. The game was played at old Shea Stadium. New York Star-QB Joe Namath made his famous "I Guarantee It" line that the Jets would win and upset Baltimore. The Colts were a huge 17-18 point favorite after their destruction of the Browns. Fans in Charm City that remember the game are still in shock that the Colts lost to the Jets.

New York would defeat the Colts 16-7. '68 NFL MVP Earl Morrall stepped-in for Baltimore after an injury to Icon QB  John Unitas. Morrall was ineffective in Super Bowl III and was benched late in the 3rd quarter by head-coach Don Shula after Baltimore was trailing 13-0. Unitas guided the Colts to their only TD of the game. The win by the Jets helped to secure the AFL/NFL merger of 1966 that would make the NFL a 26-team league.

The Colts, Steelers & Browns of the NFL joined the 10 AFL teams to form the AFC. The other 13 NFL teams formed the NFC. The Baltimore Colts won the 1st-ever AFC vs NFC Super Bowl on January 17, 1971 when they beat the Dallas Cowboys 16-13 to win Super Bowl V.

The previous two Super Bowls saw the NFL dominate the AFL, both were wins by the Green Bay Packers, The Packers on January 15, 1967 beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in Super Bowl I. The following year on January 14, 1968 saw GB defeated the Oakland Raiders 33-14 to win Super Bowl II. The SBII win by Vince Lombardi was his last game as coach for the Packers. The Super Bowl (Lombardi) Trophy is named after the Iconic coach.

If the Baltimore Ravens would've won on January 4th vs the Pittsburgh Steelers tonight they would be hosting & playing the Houston Texans on the 57th Anniversary of Super Bowl III. The Colts two-years later would beat the other NFL Texas team the Dallas Cowboys to win Super Bowl V.

The Baltimore Colts won the 1st-ever AFC vs NFC Super Bowl on January 17, 1971 when they beat Dallas .

Green Bay & Baltimore played in 4 of the first 5 Super Bowls. The Kansas City Chiefs of the AFL defeated the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 to win Super Bowl IV (4).
