'An Early Taste Of Summer': Coming Heat Wave Could Break MD Records
After a mild week with temperatures in the 50s and 60s, a surge of summer heat will push into the Baltimore area, bringing highs in the 90s.
BALTIMORE, MD — Summer is about to come early to Maryland — and records could be broken when sizzling temperatures arrive later this weekend.
After a mild week with high temperatures in the 50s and 60s, a surge of summer heat will push into the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., region by Sunday, causing temperatures to spike into the 80s with a possible high of 91 degrees on Monday, according to forecasts.

"Deep ridging engulfs much of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Sunday, bringing a return of dry, partly cloudy, and significantly warmer conditions," the National Weather Service said in its Friday morning forecast discussion. "An early taste of summer Sunday as highs reach the low to mid-80s, which is about 20-25 degrees higher than Saturday."
The summer-like temperatures are expected to linger into Monday and Tuesday before a weak cold front brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms to the area.

Don't expect rain to bring much relief from the heat. According to the NWS forecast, highs will remain in the mid- to upper 80s through at least Thursday.
As the heat settles over the area, records could be broken, according to the Capital Weather Gang's Friday forecast. Monday’s record high in Washington is 91 degrees (from 2017) and 92 on Tuesday (from 1942).
"To hit 90 for the first time in late April would be about two weeks earlier than normal but not all that surprising considering 2024 has been one of Washington’s warmest years on record so far," the Capitol Weather Gang said in its forecast.
Possible record-warm lows are also expected Tuesday — temperatures are forecast to fall only to the low to mid-60s, according to the Capital Weather Gang.
