House Of Cards Season 6 Production Suspended

The suspension comes as actor Kevin Spacey was accused by actor Anthony Rapp of making a sexual advance on him when he was 14.

Production on season six of House of Cards has been suspended until further notice, Netflix and Media Rights Capital, the studio involved in producing the show, said in a joint statement Tuesday.

“MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on HOUSE OF CARDS season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew,” the statement said. Netflix also said in a tweet that executives are on set this week to discuss with the cast and crew.

The suspension comes just days after the show's star, Kevin Spacey, was accused by actor Anthony Rapp of making a sexual advance on him when Rapp was 14. In a statement to address the allegations, Spacey said that if he did behave as Rapp alleged, then he owed him the sincerest apology. Spacey claims that he does not remember the encounter.

On Monday, Netflix said that season 6 of House of Cards would have been the last in the popular political drama that first aired in 2013.

The accusation made against Spacey is the latest in a string of allegations that have come to light against powerful public figures both in media and business. The film magnate Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct, ranging from sexual harassment to sexual assault, by dozens of women. Weinstein has denied the allegations. The accusations against Weinstein were first uncovered in investigative reports from The New York Times and The New Yorker. In another staggering case, the director James Toback has been accused of sexual misconduct by hundreds of women, The Los Angeles Times found. Toback denied the allegations to the paper.

Another recent such case centered around the journalist Mark Halperin who has been accused of sexual misconduct by several women. Following the accusations, several organizations, including MSNBC and NBC News cut ties with Halperin. In a statement, Halperin apologized but said that some of the allegations made against him are not true.
