Lidl To Celebrate Grand Opening Of First Baltimore Store July 13

BALTIMORE, MD — Lidl US announced Thursday that it will celebrate the grand opening of its newest store in Northwood Commons on July 13.

According to the company, local leaders will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:40 a.m. on grand opening morning. The store, located at 1500 Havenwood Road in Baltimore, will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

This will be Lidl’s first store in the city.

“We’ve waited a long time for a quality grocer to come to the Greater Northwood neighborhoods, and like many, I’m looking forward to having my first Lidl experience right here in my own community,” said Baltimore City Councilman Ryan Dorsey.

Lidl representatives said the grocery chain is also creating more than 45 jobs with the opening of its new Northwood Commons store. Starting pay for all associates will be $15.50 per hour, which includes comprehensive benefits. Lidl offers healthcare for all full-and-part-time positions, regardless of hours worked per week.

“The northeast corner of Baltimore, anchored by Morgan State, has been waiting for decades to have a first-rate supermarket in our community. We are finally getting one!” said Dr. David K. Wilson, Morgan State University president. “Our communities are excited to welcome a place where they can shop for fresh food, including meats, seafood, fruit and vegetables, and to get those items at reasonable prices. We are no longer a food desert. Hallelujah!"

Lidl said it is also partnering with the Maryland Food Bank to provide food to people in need across the state. Throughout the entire grand opening weekend, Wednesday-Sunday, Lidl will donate $1 to the food bank for every new myLidl member who signs up and sets Lidl Northwood Commons as their home store.

At the Northwood Commons grand opening, Lidl will debut a wrapped Tesla as part of its giveaway and partnership with Avocados From Peru. The car will be available at the food market on grand opening morning, where customers will have the opportunity to enter the sweepstakes for a chance to win the Tesla. Extra Grand Opening Event Details

The evening before the grand opening, community members are invited to celebrate the addition of the new store to their neighborhood at an open house event. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and community members will have the opportunity to tour the new store, try product samples and learn more about the new Lidl location.

Additionally, at the grand opening celebrations on July 13, customers will be able to take advantage of get-them-while-you-can grand opening special offers at the new store. The first 100 customers in line before the ribbon cutting will be presented with a special gift card ranging from $5 to $100 each. Shoppers can enter to win a $500 Lidl gift card, sample Lidl’s award-winning assortment and take advantage of special giveaways.
