MARYLAND — Where should you stop for a quick roadside bite in Maryland?

According to USA Today, it’s a no-brainer: Convenience store chain Royal Farm serves up some of the best gas station food in America, earning the No.1 spot on the list of the website’s 10Best gas station chains for food in 2024.

“Royal Farms offers a breakfast menu that’s available any time of the day or night. That's in addition to other hot food menu items, including sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, and their popular fried chicken. The stores also sell a wide variety of packaged snacks along with fountain and bottled beverages. Some locations even feature a Blending Bar, where you can craft a milkshake,” the website wrote. “They also have bottled and fountain beverages, and energy drink enthusiasts enjoy their Red Bull Infusions.”

Aside from food for breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, gasoline and diesel fuel, Royal Farms has been serving fresh fried chicken since 1959. Its Western Fries are hand-cut and hand-breaded and are cooked in the store. Custom-built hot and cold subs, sandwiches and wraps are also popular, the chain said.

2024 marks the second year the Whitehouse Station-based chain landed a spot on the list. QuickChek was nominated for another 10Best award — the best gas stations in the U.S. — but was beaten out by the likes of Buc-ee’s, QuikTrip and Royal Farms.
