Severe T-Storm Watch Extended In MD: See Latest Timing, Impacts

The National Weather Service extended the watch for several northern, central MD counties as rain, storms moved into the state.

BALTIMORE, MD — A severe thunderstorm watch has been extended for parts of northern and central Maryland as showers and possible severe weather moves into the state.

The National Weather Service extended the watch until 8 p.m. for the following counties: Anne Arundel, Prince George's, Howard, Harford and Charles. Meanwhile, a watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. for Montgomery, Baltimore, Frederick, Carroll, and Washington counties, as well as Baltimore City.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., forecasters with the National Weather Service said showers and thunderstorms continued to move to the east from the Interstate 81 corridor. Forecasters said the system is expected to reach the Baltimore area between 4 and 8 p.m.

Storms will be capable of producing damaging winds and large hail, forecasters said.

The system is to slowly diminish before midnight and give way to cloudy skies and patchy fog.

Additional rounds of rain and thunderstorms are expected Thursday morning and afternoon, forecasters said.

Wednesday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light southeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. West wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Light west wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
