Shipman Hoisted From Chesapeake Bay Following Medical Emergency
A crewmember of a tanker ship was airlifted by the Maryland State Police near Kent Island on Wednesday morning.

BALTIMORE, MD — Maryland State Police rescued a crewmember of a tanker ship from the Chesapeake Bay early Wednesday morning following a medical emergency.
The ship was en route from Baltimore at the time of the incident, which required immediate attention, police said.
Because the patient’s condition prevented a transfer onto a smaller U.S. Coast Guard vessel, a Maryland State Police helicopter crew conducted an aerial hoist operation from the Chem Jupiter, a 462-foot oil/chemical tanker ship flagged out of Liberia.

Once rescue crews located the ship, a trooper/paramedic was then lowered onto the ship’s deck via the aircraft hoist, police said. The MSP crew used the “screamer suit” style harness to hoist the patient and trooper back into the aircraft.
After the shipman and trooper/paramedic were safely loaded into the aircraft, the patient was then flown to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.
