Storm Timing Shifts For MD, Air Quality Alert In Effect Wednesday
A heat advisory and air quality alert are in effect Wednesday for Maryland as temperatures are forecast to reach nearly 100 degrees.
An incoming cold front could bring storms to Maryland earlier than expected, and as oppressive heat blankets the Baltimore region on Wednesday, an air quality alert is also in effect.
The Maryland Department of the Environment issued a Code Orange air quality alert for the Baltimore metro and Annapolis region, according to the National Weather Service.
A Code Orange means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.

On Thursday, showers are possible in the morning, with additional showers and thunderstorms likely after 11 a.m., according to the NWS. "Scattered showers and storms are likely during the evening. Some storms could bring damaging winds and flooding," the Capital Weather Gang wrote. "Less intense showers and storms remain possible overnight with muggy lows in the 70s."
