MARYLAND — Several rounds of rain are set to hit the Baltimore-DC region Wednesday after a dry, sunny start to the week, according to the latest forecast.

A north-moving weather system pushed into the region Wednesday and is expected to hit the area with scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm or two throughout the day, the National Weather Service office in Baltimore said.

"A stationary front over the area will edge northward today, resulting in some showers and a few storms," the NWS wrote on X. "A weak cold front will push through early Thursday followed by brief high pressure & continued above normal temperatures. A stronger cold front will approach the area Friday."

Cloudy skies will remain, and more rain and a possible thundershower are expected to pass through during the evening hours to around midnight.

Skies should clear Thursday, giving way to plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures reaching the mid-70s to near 80 degrees.

Enjoy the mild day on Thursday because both the NWS and Capital Weather Gang forecasts call for more rain on Friday and into the weekend.

"Some showers are possible late Friday afternoon into the night as a cold front comes through," the Capital Weather Gang said. "The potential for showers this weekend depends on the location of a cold front. If it hangs out nearby, we would have a higher chance of showers. If it pushes far enough to our south, we would have a lower chance. Models have been trending farther south for the front, potentially keeping our shower chances lower, but there is still time for the forecast to shift."

As of Wednesday, no weather watches or warnings were in effect for the area; however,
