Abingdon Fire Causes $300K In Damage, Child Hospitalized: Officials

A house fire in Abingdon injured one person this week, according to authorities.

ABINGDON, MD — A young person was injured in a house fire in Abingdon Wednesday afternoon that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

At 2:26 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 3700 block of Wolf Trail Drive. A resident discovered the fire at the single-family home, where officials said the smoke alarm activated.

The Abingdon Fire Company led the response to the fire, which investigators said took 25 minutes to control.

Crews from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company were among the 35 firefighters that responded, officials said.

A child was hospitalized as a result of the fire, according to the fire marshal.

One person was burned in the blaze, the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported.

Investigators said the fire started inside the home; however, the cause remained under investigation as of Thursday, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
