No one hit all six numbers for the $1.4 billion jackpot, but one person in Maryland will take home just under $1 million.

MARYLAND — One lucky lottery player in Maryland claimed a $1 million prize after matching five of six numbers in the Powerball drawing on Wednesday.
The winning ticket was sold in Pikesville at the Slade BP Gas Station at 524 Reisterstown Road, according to the Maryland Lottery, and matched all five white ball numbers but not the Powerball. The winners will take home $984,594.
The second-tier winner matched all five balls, but not the Powerball. The Baltimore County retailer also is a big winner as it will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the ticket.

The winning numbers were 3, 16, 29, 61, and 69. No one matched all six numbers, leaving $1.7 billion up for grabs. There hasn't been a winner for the Powerball jackpot since May, when a ticket worth $207 million was sold at a convenience store in California.
The Wednesday drawing also produced four third-tier prizes of $50,000 each on tickets sold in Dundalk, Germantown, Laurel, Severn and Temple Hills.

The $1.7 billion jackpot is the third largest in U.S. history. The other two were a $2.04 billion jackpot in 2022 and a $1.765 million jackpot in 2023. The estimated one-time payment option is $770.3 million. The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number are 1 in 292.2 million, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.9.
The Powerball jackpot roll started on June 1 and has resulted in $12 million in player prizes in Maryland. The high tier winners include: three $1 million winners, three $500,000 Double Play winners, four $150,000 winners, a $100,000 winner and 21 winners at the $50,000 level.
The latest run of surviving jackpots has produced $47.9 million in sales in Maryland, including an estimated contribution to the state of $11.9 million (25 percent of sales). Maryland retailers have received sales commissions totaling $2.7 million (5.75 percent of sales).
Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold. Since its first drawing in 1992, the Powerball game has helped generate more than $36 billion for good causes supported by U.S. lotteries.
Winners are encouraged to sign the backs of tickets and keep winning tickets in a safe location. Tickets for draw games expire 182 days after the drawing date.
Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem tickets at the Maryland Lottery Customer Resource Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes up to $25,000 can be claimed at the cashier window of any of the six casinos in Maryland. Prizes up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations.
