$4 a Gallon for Gas Almost a Reality

AAA expects prices to surge another 20 cents a gallon in the coming weeks as the country shifts from winter to summer-blend fuels.

 

The reality of $4 a gallon to fill up is just about here in Maryland.

The average cost for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland spiked to $3.93 on Sunday, a six-cent spike from a week ago and 37 cents from the same date a year ago, according to the most recent AAA survey.

The cost to fill up in Maryland has surpassed the national average, which was $3.89 a gallon Sunday, up five cents from the previous week and 32 cents more than a year ago, according to AAA.

According to a AAA news release, the switch from winter to summer-blend fuels could cause gas prices to spike an additional 20 cents in the coming weeks and could still eventually peak at $4.25 a gallon by mid-May before prices begin to decline.

The record average price for regular unleaded nationally is $4.11 a gallon, set in July 2008, according to AAA.
