Leo The Dog Spent 177 Days In The Shelter, Here's How His Story Ended
May 7 was a lucky day for Leo, who has spent 177 days in the shelter with the Humane Society of Harford County. He was finally adopted.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — After 177 days of waiting at the shelter, Leo has finally found his forever family and gone home.
A member of the Lonely Hearts Club at the Humane Society of Harford County, Leo's adoption was part of the Empty the Shelters event going on across the nation through the BISSELL Pet Foundation.
"The Empty the Shelters event is in full swing and has been a fantastic success so far. From May 1 to 15, we’re offering reduced adoption fees to help more pets find their forever homes. Adoption fees are just $50 for dogs (1 year and older) and $20 for cats (1 year and older). It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to welcome a new furry friend while making space for even more animals in need. A big thank you to Cathy Bissell and the BISSELL Pet Foundation for making this event possible," Erin Long, spokesperson for the HSHC, told Patch.

The Lonely Hearts Club is comprised of dogs that have been at the shelter for more than four months. They're a bit shy at first, but they're incredibly sweet and full of love. They need someone to be a little extra patient in the beginning as the loyal and loving pups warm up slowly to them. Anyone who adopts a dog in the Lonely Hearts Club will have their adoption fee waived and receive three months of free flea, tick and heartworm prevention, Long told Patch.
Current club member Panda, who has been at the shelter for more than 170 days, recently embarked upon an off-site adventure with a shelter staff member and was a superstar. The 3-year-old, 67-pound brown and black guy is a bundle of love, curiosity and energy. He loves long walks, playing fetch, sharing kisses, hugging and cuddling on the couch.
