Candle Shop Closing Soon In Downtown Bel Air

BEL AIR, MD — The owner of You Make Scents Candles announced on Facebook that it will be closing at the end of June.

"Having this location in Bel Air for the past three years has been amazing. We have met so many wonderful people throughout our time here and would like to thank everyone in the community for all the love and support we have been shown. It is time to close this chapter and begin a new one," owner Janene Lamone said in the Facebook post.

Lamone told Patch that there has been a decline in the support of her small business over the past year.

"We simply can’t continue to stay afloat with the cost of supplies increasing and the reduced foot traffic we have experienced. While the shop is closing, our business will continue in a different direction," Lamone said.

You Make Scents Candles will start offering on-the-go parties instead and plans to participate in events around town.

"We are very excited for this next chapter. My husband and I will be attending local vendor shows together as he also recently began his own business. The parties that were once held in our shop can now be provided to our customers at their home or event location. We hope to collaborate with other local businesses to offer these on site to their customers," Lamone told Patch.

In the meantime, the store's products will be sold at 50% off and all candle pours 25% off if booked online. The last day to pick up candles will be June 29.

"We have many items available in our shop at 50% off: candles, bath and body products, crystals, clothing, jewelry, books, plants and a variety of other products. Candle pours are also 25% off. This sale will remain in place for the rest of the month. We have several shelving and bookcases available for sale as well," Lamone told Patch.

There's a scent creation studio where customers can add a custom fragrance to add to candles and bath and body products. There's also more than 15 different DIY experiences for all ages. You Make Scents Candles also carries handmade products from local artisans, vintage items, clothing, crystals, plants, loose candy, dog treats, cat treats and more.

You Make Scents Candles can be found at downtown Bel Air at 31 W. Courtland Street. Their hours are Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday by appointment and Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
