‘Car-Free Days’ Come to Harford Sept. 20-22

During the weekend of Sept. 20-22 Harford County residents are encouraged to leave their cars in their parking spaces and go for a walk in honor of "Car-Free Days.”

The event, which is promoted by the Harford County Department of Community Services’ Commuter Assistance Program encourages people to reduce driving and avoid trips by car. 

“We are excited to give area residents this year the opportunity to participate on a weekday as well as the weekend,” said Alan Doran with the Department of Community Services in a release.

“Car-Free Days” promote improved air quality and reduce traffic congestion among other benefits. The event raises awareness of the availability of cleaner and more efficient transportation modes. 

Approximately 1,500 cities nationwide will celebrate “Car-Free Days” by promoting other travel modes including: walking, bicycling, carpooling, vanpooling or using mass transit. Residents are encouraged to carpool with others, or minimize trips when mass transit is not available.

Students at Harford Community College can ride the Harford Transit Link system free on Friday, September 20. Passes are available through Harford Commuter Assistance Rideshare or by visiting the Student Life Office at Harford Community College.
