GoFundMe Created For Couple Left With Brain Bleed, Broken Bones, Punctured Lung After Car

An Abingdon couple has created a GoFundMe to help with their mounting medical expenses after a car crash left them with extensive injuries.

ABINGDON, MD — In a split second, Jess Janowich and Matt Hughes' lives changed after they were involved in a gut-wrenching car crash Aug. 27.

Both were seriously injured in that crash and temporarily out of work. Janowich suffered a brain bleed, punctured lung, fractured rib and dislocated pinky, leaving her out of work for at least four weeks, according to a fundraiser Janowich put together.

Hughes' injuries included two fractured vertebrae in his lower back and he broke both of his femurs. He sustained multiple breaks in the lower part of his legs that will require additional surgeries moving forward, too. She wrote he will have a "long road of recovery ahead."

Janowich said that the GoFundMe campaign will help the couple pay Hughes' medical bills and to afford their living costs while they both recover from the accident. They've listed a goal of $8,000 and as of Sept. 3, its generated $2,453.

"We have a village helping us, but if you are able to contribute at all, it is very much appreciated," Janowich wrote in their GoFundMe campaign. "We are incredibly blessed to be alive after an accident this severe and taking this process one step at a time. Thank you to everyone who has reached out already. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we get through this rough time, thank you."
