Firefighter Dies After Emergency Call In Whiteford
A Harford County firefighter died in the line of duty, according to the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company.

WHITEFORD, MD — An officer with strong ties to the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company passed away Tuesday, according to officials.
“With great sadness,” the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company reported “the unexpected line of duty death (LODD) of our beloved FF/Secretary Janet Holbrook.”
Janet Holbrook — wife of the fire company’s president, Larry Holbrook — died overnight after returning home from an emergency call, officials said in a statement Tuesday. She was 52.

For more than 25 years, Janet Holbrook served the agency through various positions and was most recently reelected secretary for 2022, according to the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company.
"Janet was a friend to all who knew her, and she was always ready to help her community," the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company posted on Facebook with the news of Holbrook's death.

An obituary page was set up for Janet Holbrook on the Harkins Funeral Home website. However, service details had not been posted as of Wednesday afternoon.
"She was the most wonderful and down to earth person I knew," one person wrote on the Harkins tribute wall. "Always there if someone needed her for any reason."
