Freeze Watch For 6 MD Counties Issued

With temperatures expected to dip below freezing, the National Weather Service gave tips for protecting plants and pipes.

MARYLAND — With temperatures set to take a dip, the National Weather Service has placed some Maryland jurisdictions under a freeze watch.

Monday's mild conditions, with temperatures in the 60s, will drop to the low 50s on Tuesday, then possibly go below freezing.

"The first freezing temperatures of the season are possible," the National Weather Service advised.

Temperatures as low as 31 degrees are possible, according to the freeze watch, which applies to these areas:

  • Baltimore County
  • Carroll County
  • Frederick County
  • Harford County
  • Howard County
  • Montgomery County

The freeze watch will be in effect from 2 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Specifically, the freeze watch mentioned these towns: Frederick, Ballenger Creek, Eldersburg, Westminster, Reisterstown, Cockeysville, Germantown, Damascus, Lisbon and Jarrettsville.

Before the temperature drop, weather officials say people can take precautions to protect their plants and their pipes.

Sensitive vegetation may be killed due to the frost and freezing conditions, so forecasters advise people to cover them if possible.

Here are tips to prevent pipes from freezing or bursting:

  • Wrap, drain or drip pipes.
  • Drain in-ground sprinkler systems.
  • Drain and cover above-ground pipes.

The National Weather Service forecast shows some parts of central and northern Maryland may see a chance of snow Thursday night into Friday morning.
