A Harford County hazardous materials official was recently honored in Baltimore.
Clarence E. Ross, assistant chief of the county's hazardous materials response team, was presented the Making a Difference Award by the International Association of Fire Chiefs at a conference earlier this month at the Hilton Baltimore.
“We are delighted that the IAFC Haz Mat Committee recognized the dedication, selfless service and commitment to excellence of Assistant Chief Clarence Ross,” said emergency services Director Russell J. Strickland in a press release. “Assistant Chief Ross is a long-time and valued member of the Harford County Hazardous Materials Team and goes above and beyond what is required in making a difference for the people of Harford County."
Ross—who retired from the Harford County Sheriff's Office in 2007 after 34 years on the job—has worked with the hazardous materials team for 24 years, and was nominated by retired Chief Larry A. Mabe, according to the release.
"Clarence is a leader in his field and has been for more than 20 years," Mabe said in the release.
