Help Needed As Emergency Shelter Set Up At Humane Society Of Harford County For Extra Dogs

An emergency shelter has been set up at the Humane Society of Harford County, which has received an influx of dogs and needs helps.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The community's help is needed to care for an overabundance of dogs at the Humane Society of Harford County, which has set up a tent on its property that's functioning as an emergency shelter.

HSHC Executive Director Bob Citrullo said the shelter has almost 40 dogs and those pets cost thousands of dollars beyond their monthly budget. Citrullo asked for the public to donate and support the influx of animals, as well as adopt or become a foster parent.

Citrullo emphasized that no animal will be euthanized to make space.

"Our community is so important to our success and we're once again asking for your support. Our resources are being stretched to their limits. The supplies and money you donate are crucial to saving lives and we're so thankful every time we have a need and you help meet it. Every like, comment and share (on Facebook) helps get the animals in front of new eyes for adoption. Every bag of treats helps us teach a dog to sit, making them more adoptable. Every Kong and toy helps the animals destress. And every dollar helps us with our rising daily costs. We're on a mission and we hope you can help us in any way you are able," Citrullo said in a video posted on Facebook.

Citrullo told WBAL he hopes the society's new training building will be ready by summer, since it can function as an emergency shelter if needed.
