Everyone has that one brand they wish would open closer to home. Here's what Marylanders picked.
Everyone has that one brand they wish would open closer to home, whether it’s a cult-favorite fast food chain, a beloved grocery store or a gym franchise they’ve only seen on TV.
But which chain would Marylanders like to see most in their state?
Financial media company MarketBeat recently surveyed more than 3,000 people, asking them that question. Those surveyed included a balanced mix across age, gender and geography.

The results revealed Marylanders want grocery chain Meijer to open in the Old Line State.
"This Midwest supercenter is like a mashup of Target and a full grocery store, but with more regional character," MarketBeat wrote. "For Marylanders, the idea of one-stop shopping at Meijer feels both practical and fresh compared to their usual options."

Coming in at No. 2 was Portillo’s, a Chicago staple known for its hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches and chocolate cake shakes.
"Portillo’s has built a loyal fan base in the Midwest," MarketBeat wrote. "Marylanders with ties to Illinois often say they’d line up if the chain ever made its way east."
Finally, residents would love Daiso to open in Maryland. Daiso is a Japanese variety store known for its colorful aisles of home goods, snacks and other surprises.
"With hundreds of locations across Asia and a growing U.S. presence in California, Texas, and New York, Daiso has a cult following among bargain hunters and design lovers alike," MarketBeat wrote.
Nationally, no brand came up more often than In-N-Out Burger. From Alabama to Wisconsin, residents across the country listed the cult California chain as their dream arrival. East Coast grocery chain Wegmans also ranked in the top three in more than a dozen states, including some far outside its current footprint like Texas, New Mexico and Utah.
Meanwhile, not every wish was food. States like Alaska (LA Fitness), Colorado (Movement Climbing + Fitness) and Utah (SoulCycle) had an appetite for national gym and lifestyle brands.
