Marylanders Help Boys Fill Trailer With Supplies For Hurricane Victims

Two boys whose fire captain dad is in North Carolina helping with recovery efforts decided to do their part to help back home.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Two boys hoping to raise items for the victims of Hurricane Helene gathered up donated supplies in a 53-foot-long trailer this past week.

Their father, Brandon Watkins, is a Baltimore County Fire Department captain and past chief of NVFC. He's been deployed with the federal USAR team PA-TF1, working on rescue and recovery efforts in North Carolina.

"While he's out there making a difference, Jack and Nick are doing their part at home—and they need your help," noted the Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company on their Facebook page.

Their mom, Kait, confirmed on social media that dad Brandon is still in North Carolina. She expressed awe and wonder over the generosity of Marylanders in a video shared on Facebook.

"Jack and Nick have spent the last five days, 20+ hours with me collecting donations, and with all of your help, they were able to fill a 53-foot trailer with supplies to send to those affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. They also raised an amazing $1,850 in donations," she wrote. "...it’s heartwarming to see how something small can grow into something so powerful with the help of a caring community. Thank you all for coming together to make a difference. I enjoyed speaking to each and every one of you and hearing your stories. The lesson you all taught Jack and Nick about kindness and generosity will stay with them forever, but I think they may have taught us a little something, too: that no act is too small to make a difference."
