HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Realtors dedicate themselves to helping clients buy and sell homes, but a group from Harford County recently helped build homes for those in need.

This year for Harford Realtor Care Day, members with the Harford County Association of Realtors participated in a Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna build and donated $2,500 to support Habitat for Humanity’s mission.

HarCAR CEO Veronica Rolocut told Patch that this was their first year working with Habitat for Humanity for their Realtor Care Day project.

“And it could not have been a better fit,” Rolocut told Patch. “Habitat for Humanity’s mission aligns with ours, and we look forward to potential future collaborations."

HarCAR members joined a sponsored team build day and helped with the demolition and early stages of construction for a home rehabilitation on Darlington Avenue in Aberdeen.

“Participating in a Habitat for Humanity build was a perfect way for our members to give back to the community,” said HarCAR President Julie King-Schulz. “As realtors, we support fair housing and believe that everyone deserves a home. This year’s project gave us the opportunity to roll up our sleeves, work side-by-side, and make a lasting impact on the lives of local families.”

Each year for Realtor Care Day, HarCAR members select a project that will better the Harford County Community.

"Previous projects include but are not limited to a blood drive at the Bel Air Armory, installing a ‘free library,’ bench and planting a tree at Emily Bayless Graham Park, painting the Lafayette Trail markers in Havre de Grace and many more," Rolocut told Patch.

Habitat Susquehanna builds or rehabs approximately six homes per year (including the “Habi-Tech” homes). The nonprofit obtains properties for these homes either through a sale or a donation.
