Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?
She carries a 4.125 GPA but also is a complete standout in softball and soccer at the John Carroll School. She made varsity as a freshman in both sports at a big Catholic school. Starter at shortstop since her freshman year and made all county last season as a sophomore. Biggest accomplishment in softball was being picked as a team captain as a sophomore and then winning the leadership award at seasons end; Sophie is super proud of that. She started at center defense in soccer as a sophomore after her freshman season was shut down due to COVID. The third game of the sophomore soccer season she had a high ankle sprain and missed 9 games but still fought her way back with rehab and played well in last few games and playoffs. This year again she starts at center defense and is a field general out there and at one point John Carroll Girls Soccer was ranked #1 in state of MD. I think what makes this young lady special is she is a born leader with a HUGE HEART! She is always picking up her teammates and leading through thick and thin. Even when she is dealing with a lot herself. Her grandparents helped watch her until she was 8 years old and she lost both of them in the last 1.5 years. She lost her grandma due to COVID this past January. Really, she should have taken some time off to grieve but she also knows how much her teammates depend on her so she didn't miss much time for anything. She has a lot of college interest for both sports and if you got to know her for 15 minutes you would know why. Humble and smart, an athletic young lady that is an amazing teammate! Her future is very bright!
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?
She loves to compete, she gets pulled in 5 different directions all the time, but she handles it well and with such grace juggling it all.
Keep up the great work, Sophie!
