HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Monica Aragon who nominated Juliana, a 10th grader at The John Carroll School of Fallston.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Juliana is a 10th grade student at The John Carroll High School, in Bel Air, Maryland. She is academically sound with a 4.2 GPA and consistently ends each quarter with honors. She is currently enrolled in 2 honors classes and is an athlete on the varsity softball team where she has been the starting catcher since freshman year. In March, she will be inducted into the Quill & Scroll: National Honorary Society for High School Journalists for her work and many contributions to the school newspaper . Last year she was John Carroll’s only female shot-put athlete where she tested her limits by taking on a new sport. Outside of the classroom, she plays on both a competitive local club softball team, Tri-State Thunder Gold, and is also a member of an international softball team, Chaos USA. Last month, she participated in an international tournament in the Netherlands where she played teams from 5 different countries including the UK and Sweden. In her off time, she volunteers with Andrew’s Laughing Gas where she’s found a passion for supporting and advocating for children with cancer. Working with this non-profit organization brings her so much joy and a sense of pride as she gives back to a cause greater than her. She is leader in the classroom, on the field and in the community and deserves the recognition and support from our community.
