BEL AIR, MD — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Laquanda Joseph who wrote this nomination of Laronda Mitchell of Bel Air.

How do you know the star local student?

My mother

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

After all the years, and for taking care of us, and having 10 surgeries she still found a way to go back to school, get As, and get on the dean’s lists. I know there are many kids out here that deserve this but I believe when you have a mom that raised three girls and helping with her grandchildren as well as being hurt and still go back to school, they deserve some type of recognition.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

She is a cancer survivor and after several surgeries still went back to school and got on the dean’s list.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Laronda Mitchell!
