Tornado, Flood Watch In Effect For Harford County

Two weather alerts are in effect for Harford County after severe thunderstorms rolled through the region.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The National Weather Service placed Harford and Cecil counties under a tornado watch on Friday.

The tornado watch is in effect until 6 p.m. It includes Aberdeen, Bel Air, Edgewood, Elkton, Fallston, Havre de Grace and Joppatowne, officials said.

The watch means conditions are favorable for the development of a tornado.

A flood watch is in effect until 11 p.m. on Friday due to the potential for runoff to cause flooding at creeks, streams, rivers and other low-lying or flood-prone locations.

Rounds of thunderstorms could result in about 1 to 3 inches of rain in most parts of the region, with greater than 3 inches of accumulation possible in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

EXPIRED: A tornado warning is in effect for Harford County until 2 p.m. The National Weather Service issued the alert after 1:30 p.m., officials said.

During a tornado warning, people should go inside to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Pea-sized hail is possible, according to the warning, which covers Bel Air, Hickory, Pylesville, Darlington and Fallston, officials say.

Severe thunderstorms with 60 mph wind gusts were on a line from Stewartstown to Bel Air North to the Kingsville area at 1:35 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, which reported they were moving east at 40 mph.
