2 Teens Charged For Attempted Carjacking In Bethesda

A third suspect remains at large following the May incident, Montgomery County police said.

BETHESDA, MD — Two teenagers are facing charges in connection with an attempted carjacking in Bethesda, according to police.

Montgomery County authorities said the incident happened on May 24 in the 8800 block of Rockville Pike in Bethesda.

According to police, three suspects attempted to steal a gray Toyota RAV4 from a rideshare driver, who picked them up in the 10300 block of Westlake Drive and dropped them off on Rockville Pike. The female driver was punched before she managed to escape in her Toyota.

Community members identified two of the three suspects from surveillance photos posted on the police department’s social media accounts, leading to their arrest on Tuesday.

Police said a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were each charged with attempted carjacking, second-degree assault and conspiracy to commit carjacking.

Detectives are still asking for the public’s help identifying the third suspect. A photo is shared below.
