4 MD Companies Make Fortune 500 List For 2024

Four Maryland companies made the Fortune 500 list for 2024, its editors said. The firms are ranked by total annual revenue.

MARYLAND — Four Maryland companies are among the country's largest, according to a new report.

The Old Line State is home to four Fortune 500 companies:

  1. Lockheed Martin: Bethesda, No. 17 overall, 122,000 employees (revenue in millions) $67,571
  2. Constellation Energy: Baltimore, No. 165 overall, 21,231 employees (revenue in millions) $24,918
  3. Marriott International: Bethesda, No. 173 overall, 148,000 employees (revenue in millions) $23,713
  4. Xylem: Cheverly, No. 486 overall, 23,000 employees, (revenue in millions) $7,364

Amazon is the largest company with D.C. area headquarters since its HQ2 opened. in Arlington, WTOP said. It ranks No. 2 on the national Fortune 500 list and tops the regional list with $574.8 billion in revenue last year.

Fortune said California had the most Fortune 500 companies this year of any state.

The Golden State, with 57 of the nation's largest companies, claimed first place for the first time since 2014. California beat both Texas and New York, which tied for second place with 52 companies each.

Here are the top ten companies that made the Fortune 500 list, along with the states they are based in:

  1. Walmart − Arkansas
  2. Amazon − Washington
  3. Apple − California
  4. UnitedHealth Group − Minnesota
  5. Berkshire Hathaway − Nebraska
  6. CVS Health − Rhode Island
  7. Exxon Mobil − Texas
  8. Alphabet − California
  9. McKesson − Texas
  10. Cencora − Pennsylvania

California took first place despite the fact that five companies fell off the state's list this year, according to Fortune. That's because nine companies headquartered in the Golden State were added to the list, including Clorox, DoorDash and Workday.
