Bethesda Doctor Dies In Personal Watercraft Accident In Delaware

A fertility doctor from Bethesda, Dr. Stephen Greenhouse, died while operating a personal watercraft off Fenwick Island, Delaware.

FENWICK ISLAND, MD — A fertility doctor from Bethesda died in a boating accident off Little Assawoman Bay in Sussex County, Delaware over the weekend, officials said.

Dr. Stephen Greenhouse, 53, died on Saturday, July 28, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control said in a statement.

The statement said Greenhouse was operating a personal watercraft that collided with another personal watercraft.

He is survived by his wife and his three sons, a statement from his work place, Shady Grove Fertility, said.

"Steve will be remembered at SGF and in the Washington, D.C. medical community by the thousands of lives he touched in both small and large ways," the statement reads. "His passion for medicine and for his patients was a driving force behind Steve’s professional life. His patients appreciated his expertise and loved him for his generosity of time and attention during a difficult period in their lives."

He was pronounced dead at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. The Maryland State Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death, the statement said.

The accident is under investigation by DNREC Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Temple Beth Ami at 14330 Travilah Rd., Rockville. Interment will follow at Garden of Remembrance in Clarksburg.

Donations in his memory may be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
