Coronavirus Cases Rise To 19,733 In County; Deaths Hit 779
Montgomery County added 87 new coronavirus cases and two new deaths on Thursday, Aug. 27.
BETHESDA, MD — Confirmed coronavirus cases in Montgomery County climbed by 87 on Thursday, while the fatality count grew by two.
The latest data released by the Maryland Department of Health pushes the county's overall totals to 19,733 infections and 779 deaths. The fatality count does not include the 39 others whose deaths were linked to the virus, but never confirmed by a lab test. They are considered "probable deaths" — and will not be added to the official total until a lab can confirm them.
The county — which is home to roughly 1.1 million people — continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 25,817, according to the latest figures.

Statewide, there have been 106,063 confirmed cases, 3,580 deaths, and 142 "probable deaths."
Of the 412 currently hospitalized for the virus, 107 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The state's test positivity rate stands at 3.3 percent. The positivity rate in Montgomery County is 2.36 percent.

To date, the county has tested 20.9 percent of its population.
