County Coronavirus Cases Top 20K; Nearly 22% Of Population Tested
Montgomery County now has 20,006 confirmed coronavirus cases, according to health officials. The local death toll stands at 782.

BETHESDA, MD — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Montgomery County surpassed 20,000 on Monday, according to Maryland health officials, while the death toll from the disease topped 780.
Hard-hit Montgomery County, the most populous jurisdiction in the state, now has 20,006 cases. That's an increase of 60 positive infections from the previous day.
The local death toll climbed by one to 782. The latest fatality count does not include the 39 others whose deaths were linked to the virus, but never confirmed by a lab test. They are considered "probable deaths" — and will not be added to the official total until a lab can confirm them.

The county continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 26,215, according to the latest figures.
Statewide, there have been 108,249 confirmed cases, 3,612 deaths, and 143 "probable deaths."

Of the 377 currently hospitalized for the virus, 107 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The state's test positivity rate stands at 3.26 percent. The positivity rate in Montgomery County is 2.47 percent.

To date, the county has tested 21.7 percent of its population.
