County Reports Smallest Daily Rise In Cases Since Late November

Montgomery County on Monday saw its smallest one-day increase in COVID-19 cases since late November.

BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County has recorded its smallest one-day increase in COVID-19 cases since late November, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

On Monday, the county reported 190 new coronavirus cases. That pushes the total number of known infections the county has had since March to 59,155.

The caseload was lower on Nov. 28, when there were 189 confirmed cases.

Six more people have died from the disease in the past 24 hours, according to officials. The death toll now stands at 1,266.

The latest fatality count, however, does not include the 44 others whose deaths were linked to the virus but never confirmed by a lab test. For now, they are considered "probable deaths."

Montgomery County continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second-highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 68,102, according to the latest figures.

Across Maryland, there have been 355,636 coronavirus cases, 6,978 confirmed deaths, and 176 "probable deaths." Of the 1,437 patients being hospitalized for the disease statewide, 371 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
