Driver Freed From Trash Truck Near River Road and Wilson

Driver of truck hit a tree, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

Update, 3:50p.m.: The intersection at River Road and Wilson Lane has been cleared following a late morning trash truck crash, Fire and Rescue reports.

Original post: The driver of a trash truck became trapped inside the vehicle after colliding with a tree near River Road and Wilson Lane this morning, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

It took about 15 minutes to extricate the driver from the vehicle, according to Capt. Oscar Garcia, a spokesman for county Fire and Rescue. Units were dispatched at 11:24a.m. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is being transported to the hopsital.

Portions of the intersection are blocked following the accident. WTOP is reporting that outbound River Road is blocked and one lane is getting by on inbound River Road.

The trash truck still needs to be towed and officials need to examine the tree to see whether it will need to be removed, Garcia said.
