Park Police Identify Suspect In 18 Vehicle Break-Ins In Potomac Area

Police have identified a man who they believe has broken into several vehicles, mostly Honda CRVs, in the Potomac area of Maryland.

POTOMAC, MD — Police have identified a man who they believe has broken into several vehicles in the Potomac area of Maryland.

The U.S. Park Police said they are searching for Alexander Shamuilov, 34, who could be responsible for as many as 18 break-ins in Potomac, near Great Falls and the C&O Canal, WTOP reported Saturday.

Through its investigation of a theft from a vehicle that occurred at Carderock Park on April 19, the Park Police identified Shamuilov as a suspect. In that case, a Honda sedan was broken into by the suspect “punching the driver’s door lock,” and credit cards were stolen from a purse inside the Honda, according to police.

The method of entry into the Honda was stolen was consistent with 18 other theft from auto cases dating back to August 2021 in the areas of Great Falls, Carderock and Widewater, Maryland.

In all of those cases, Honda vehicle were targeted, with the most common model the CRV.

The Park Police said its investigation found that Shamuilov rents vehicles from the New York and New Jersey area to travel to Maryland to break into the vehicles. He usually travels with a female suspect, police said.
