Residents and community leaders gathered at the memorial in Bethesda's Friday morning to honor those who have served our country.

Cold, windy weather didn't deter the crowd, who enjoyed patriotic music performed by the Brass Quintet and listened to a speech by Capt. Frederick C. Kass, commander of Naval Support Activity Bethesda, the campus on which Bethesda's sits.

Walter Reed Bethesda was by U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. Those who spoke at the ceremony Friday expressed pride that Bethesda is home to the military hospital, which boasts cutting-edge facilities to treat our nation's wounded warriors.
