Lockdown At NSA Bethesda After Report Of Gunman: Police
The military base that houses Walter Reed Hospital first confirmed a "security incident" had occurred around 10:45 a.m.
BETHESDA, MD — Naval Support Activity Bethesda went into lockdown Thursday following reports of a potential active shooter, the base confirmed on social media.
Montgomery County Police later said the suspect had a plastic training rifle and there was no threat. At 11:17 a.m., base officials said all buildings had been cleared and gates to the installation were reopened.
"Please be patient as traffic delays resolve and we work to get everyone on/off the installation," officials said.

The base first confirmed a "security incident" had occurred around 10:45 a.m. near Building 63. Police responded, and personnel were instructed to shelter in place until further notice.
Around 11 a.m., base officials said security was responding to reports of a potential active shooter in the area of Building 10.

The installation was placed on lockdown as security worked to clear both buildings.

Montgomery County police said the man with the fake gun was questioned and won't be charged.
NSA Bethesda is home to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
