For Second Straight Day, County Records Fewer Than 200 Cases
Health officials in Montgomery County recorded 137 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The death toll now sits at 1,269.
BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County added 137 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the second straight day in which health officials have recorded fewer than 200 cases.
The latest addition pushes the countywide case total to 59,292.
It's the smallest increase in daily cases for the county since November, according to the Maryland Department of Health. The last time the caseload was lower was on Nov. 3, when there were 121 confirmed infections.

Three more deaths were reported in the county on Tuesday, bringing the countywide death toll to 1,269.
The latest fatality count does not include the 44 others whose deaths were linked to the virus but never confirmed by a lab test. For now, they are considered "probable deaths."

Montgomery County continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second-highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 68,295, according to the latest figures.
Across Maryland, there have been 356,541 coronavirus cases, 7,012 confirmed deaths, and 176 "probable deaths." Of the 1,467 patients being hospitalized for the disease statewide, 366 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
