Suspects Punch Man In Face In Attempted Carjacking In Bethesda: Police

After leaving a restaurant in Bethesda, a man was punched in the face several times before the suspects tried to steal his car, police said.

BETHESDA, MD — The Montgomery County Police Department is investigating an attempted carjacking that occurred in downtown Bethesda last Thursday.

At about 7 p.m. on April 27, the victim was leaving a restaurant in the 7900 block of Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda and when he opened the rear passenger door to his vehicle. Two unknown male suspects approached him and began to punch him in the face, police said.

After striking him multiple times, the suspects demanded the victim’s car keys. One of the suspects then opened the driver’s door to the vehicle and discovered that the vehicle was not running, according to police.

People inside the restaurant who witnessed the assault went outside to help the victim. The suspects then left the scene and headed toward the Bethesda Metro Station, police said.

The suspects are described as two Black males, in their late teens or early twenties, according to police. The first suspect is about 5-feet, 8-inches tall, with a thin build, approximately 150 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask, a black hooded sweatshirt with a white Nike symbol on the front, black pants and carrying a dark-colored backpack.

The second suspect is about 5-feet, 3-inches tall and approximately 120 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask, black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Anyone with information about the attempting carjacking can contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspects. Callers can remain anonymous.
