Tax-Free Shopping Week Kicks Off At Westfield Montgomery
Free, kid-friendly events are planned at Westfield Montgomery mall to launch Maryland's Tax-Free Shopping Week.

BETHESDA, MD — Ahead of Sunday's start to Maryland's Tax Free Week, Westfield Montgomery mall has three free, kid-friendly events to kick off back-to-school shopping.
Some back-to-school supplies, clothing and other essentials will be sales-tax free from Aug. 10-16. During the holiday, the state sales tax of 6 percent will be suspended on clothing and shoes under $100 or the first $40 for backpack sales.

- Chess Lounge - Grandparents & Seniors Day: The Chess Lounge returns with open play and encourages guests to bring their grandparents and senior friends. There will be a free prize drawing every half hour. To be held Saturday, Aug. 9, noon to 5 p.m.
- Shopping Is My Cardio with Fit4Mom: Fit4Mom is teaching a full-body, high-intensity interval training HIIT Cardio class that incorporates cardio with barre-style strength and core moves. To be held Sunday, Aug. 10, 10 a.m.
- Summer Smarts with Smithsonian AntLab: Scientists introduce kids to the world of ants and how they achieve big things through teamwork, cooperation, and division of labor. The interactive session includes story-telling, Q&A, the “Ant Trail Relay,” where kids form a human supply line to build a nest, and the “Ant-venture Passport” scavenger hunt through participating stores. To be held Sunday, Aug. 10, 11 a.m.-noon
All three events will be held at the mall’s Center Court, Level 1, 7101 Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda.
