Thief Befriends Autistic Man To Use Bank Account: Police
A man was arrested for fraud for allegedly befriending a man with autism and withdrawing money from his bank account.

NORTH BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County Police announced the arrest of a 24-year-old man Wednesday who allegedly befriend an adult with autism, gained his trust over a period of time and then fraudulently withdrew money from his bank account at a North Bethesda bank.
Detectives said Kim Dashawn Prophet, 24, befriended the 22-year-old male victim over a period of time. Prophet eventually asked the man for his bank account information, which he provided. Prophet then asked to see the victim's ATM card and stole it, police said.
Police said Prophet went to the Navy Federal Credit Union at 12244 Rockville Pike on Aug. 11 and deposited a counterfeit check written to the victim. He then went to the branch's ATM and used the victim's stolen bank card to withdraw $600 from the victim's account.

Detectives received about 12 tips from the public providing information on Prophet's identity, police said. Police charged Prophet with numerous fraud and forgery crimes and obtaining property of a vulnerable adult by deception via a Montgomery County criminal warrant. He is currently in custody at the Arlington County, Va. Detention Facility on charges unrelated to this case.
