This Weekend: What To Know If You're Taking Metro

Shady Grove, Rockville and Twinbrook stations to close this weekend.

Planning on hopping the Red Line this weekend? Here’s a few things you should know, according to WMATA:

  • Track work is planned on the Red Line this weekend beginning at 10 p.m. Friday through system closing on Sunday. Three stations – Shady Grove, Rockville and Twinbrook – will be closed as Metro crews conduct track circuit module replacement and rail tie and insulator renewal recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board.
  • Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Shady Grove and White Flint.
  • Riders traveling through the work zone should tack on about 20 minutes of travel time to their trip.
  • Between White Flint and Glenmont, Red Line trains will run about every ten minutes.
  • Friday night, the last trains to run through the work zone will leave Shady Grove at 9:44 p.m. and Glenmont at 8:53 p.m.
  • Additional track work is planned on the Orange and Blue lines. No work is planned for the Yellow and Green Lines. For more information, check Metro’s press release.
