Bethesda Ave. water main break also damaged a gas line.

Update, 12:00 p.m.: WSSC tells Patch 1 p.m. is a more realistic estimate for having Wilson reopened.
Update, 9:00 a.m. Wilson Lane is closed in both directions between Bradley Boulevard and Aberdeen Road, Riggins said. Crews are working to repair a 20-inch water main that broke near 5700 Wilson Lane. 42 customers are out of water. A leak was detected Thursday morning, and crews went out to sand the area because of water in the roadway, but didn't start repairing the main until Thursday evening, Riggins said. "We prioritize the breaks depending on the severity of the leak."

Original Post: A water main break has shut down all lanes of Bethesda Avenue at Arlington Road in both directions, according to a spokeswoman for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.
An eight-inch water main broke late Thursday evening and crews shut down water to the main around 5:20 Friday morning, said WSSC spokesman Lyn Riggins.
About 20 customers are affected, likely without water, Riggins said. Crews are still working in the area.
The break is in the heart of Bethesda's commerical district.
