What's Open, Closed For Christmas Weekend 2022 In Arlington

As Christmas falls on a weekend, various schedule changes will happen on the holiday and surrounding days in Arlington.

ARLINGTON, VA — Christmas is on a Sunday this year, meaning that most Arlington County offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26 to celebrate the holiday.

Along with Arlington County government offices closing on Dec. 26, other services have schedule changes on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and surrounding days.

Below are the openings and closures to know for the Christmas holiday weekend in Arlington:

Arlington County government offices: Closed Monday, Dec. 26.

Arlington Public Schools: On winter break. Return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Courts: The Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will be closed from Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26.

Parking: Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters are not enforced on holidays.

Libraries: Arlington Public Libraries will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 24 through Monday, Dec. 26.

Trash Pickup & Recycling:

  • Recycling/Trash/Organics Curbside Routes: Regular collection on Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26.
  • Special Collections (Brush, Metal, E-waste): Regular collection on Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26.
  • Mulch Delivery: None on Monday, Dec. 26.
  • Household Hazards/Electronics Drop-off Facility: No drop-off from Monday, Dec. 19 through Monday, Dec. 26.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26.

Post offices: Closed on Monday, Dec. 26.

Metro: Metrorail will be open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Dec. 24, 7 a.m. to midnight on Dec. 25 and 7 a.m. to midnight on a Sunday holiday schedule on Dec. 26. Metrobus will be on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 26.

ART Bus: ART will operate holiday bus service on Sunday, Dec. 25. ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. On Monday, Dec. 26, ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate. The ART Customer Call Center will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25.

COVID-19 clinics: Vaccine clinics will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24 through Monday, Dec. 26. The last remaining curative testing kiosk will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24 through Monday, Dec. 26.

Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs: All community centers, administrative offices and classes are closed from Saturday, Dec. 24 through Monday, Dec. 26. League members should check with their leagues on schedules. The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center is closed Saturday, Dec. 24 through Monday, Dec. 26. Parks in Arlington will be open over Christmas weekend.

Animal Welfare League of Arlington: Closed on Saturday, Dec. 24 through Tuesday, Dec. 27. AWLA will re-open for regular business on Dec. 28. The Arlington County Animal Control team can be reached for emergencies at 703-931-9241.

Sheriff's Office: Administrative offices are closing on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 1 p.m. and will remain closed through Monday, Dec. 26. Fingerprinting for the public and county employees are open Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the sheriff's office website for detention center visiting hours.
