What's Open, Closed For New Year's 2023 In Arlington
As New Year's Day falls on a Sunday, there will be various schedule changes on the day after in Arlington.

ARLINGTON, VA — New Year's Day is on a Sunday this year, meaning that most Arlington County offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2 to celebrate the holiday.
Along with Arlington County government offices closing on Jan. 2, other county services have schedule changes over the New Year's weekend.
Below are the openings and closures to know for this coming weekend in Arlington:

Arlington County government offices: Closed Monday, Jan. 2.
Arlington Public Schools: On winter break. Return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Courts: The Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2.

Parking: Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters are not enforced on holidays.
Libraries: Arlington Public Libraries will be closed Sunday, Jan. 1 and Monday, Jan. 2.
Trash Pickup & Recycling:
- Recycling/Trash/Organics Curbside Routes: Regular collection Friday, Dec. 30 and Monday, Jan. 2.
- Special Collections (Brush, Metal, E-waste): Regular collection Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.
- Mulch Delivery: None on Jan. 2.
- Customer Contact Center: Closed Jan. 2.
- Household Hazards/Electronics Drop-off Facility: No drop-off Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
- Earth Products Drop-off Yard: Yard closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Free paper shredding/inert material drop-off shifts to Jan. 7.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are closed Monday, Jan. 2.
Post offices: Closed on Monday, Jan. 2.
Metrorail: Operating hours on Saturday, Dec. 31, will be extended until 2 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1. All trips will be free for riders entering after 8 p.m. Saturday. Will operate from 7 a.m. to midnight on Sunday, Jan. 1, and Monday, Jan. 2.
Metrobus: Operating hours on Saturday, Dec. 31, will be extended until 2 a.m. Sunday. All trips will be free for riders after 8 p.m. on Saturday. Will operate on its Sunday schedule on Sunday, Jan. 1, and Monday, Jan. 2.
ART Bus: ART will operate holiday bus service on Sunday, Jan. 1. ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate. On Monday, Jan. 2, ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate. The ART Customer Call Center will be closed Jan. 2.
COVID-19 clinics: Find a testing location using the Virginia Department of Health website. All of Curative’s COVID-19 testing services in Arlington and across the nation are ending Dec. 28, 2022.
Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs: All community centers, administrative offices and classes are closed Monday, Jan. 2. League members should check with their leagues on schedules. The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center is closed Monday, Jan. 2. Parks in Arlington will be open over New Year's weekend.
Animal Welfare League of Arlington: Closed on Saturday, Dec. 31 through Monday, Jan. 2. AWLA will re-open for regular business on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The Arlington County Animal Control team can be reached for emergencies at 703-931-9241.
Sheriff's Office: Administrative Offices closed on Monday, Jan. 2. Fingerprinting for the public and county employees are open Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Detention Center Visiting Hours
